I just returned form Typcon:Rhythm in Atlanta and one of hot topics was “web based fonts”. They hosted a two hour panel discussion on the subject and posted it online. It offers a good overview of web based font limitations. Type foundries are trying to create ways to allow more fonts online, but they are fearful that the fonts will too easily be illegally copied. From my perspective as a designer I wish they would talk more about how they hope to help get more fonts online versus why they are fearfulof widespread copyright infringement.
