Make Your Own Letterpress T-Shirt
I learned this process while taking a printmaking workshop from Jim Sheridan at Hatch ShowPrint in Nashville TN. This process requires very few materials.
Supplies Needed:
1) Oil based printing ink such as offset ink, block printing or silkscreen ink.
2) T-Shirts- Get the most durable t-shirts you can find. I recommend Haynes super heavy weight.
3) Letterpress wood type or letters. If you don’t have wood type you can create your own artwork by creating a linoleum cut. You can purchase linoleum blocks at your local art supply store. You’ll also need a linoleum cutter to carve out your design.
4) Ink brayer
Steps
1) Place t-shirt on clean flat surface.
2) Use brayer to transfer ink to wood type
3) Place inked wood type on shirt
4) Press wood type into shirt
5) Allow shirt 24-48 hours to dry
6) Wash in washer with cold water
